The official Washington state flag features a dark green field with the state seal in the center. The seal is a portrait of George Washington on a blue background, surrounded by a gold band. The band includes the words "The Seal of the State of Washington" and the year 1889, the year Washington became a state. The flag was officially adopted in 1923.
