The official California state flag, also known as the Bear Flag, features a white field with a red star in the upper left corner and a red stripe along the bottom edge. A brown grizzly bear walking on a patch of green grass appears in the center of the white field, with the words "California Republic" inscribed below the bear. The flag is one and a half times longer than it is wide.
